Photography Tour

Capture the images and immortalise the memories with the help of a professional photographer who has over 7 years of teaching experience. If you are a keen photographer you will enjoy learning about new techniques. Our guided tuition allows enough time to discuss tips and techniques and will reveal the true potential of your digital camera. You will have time to get that shot just right and help you create truly beautiful images on your travels.

Day 1 - Arrival and settling in.

Many people arrive mid week taking advantage of cheap flights from Stansted to Bilbao with Easyjet.

You will be collected at the airport and taken to Guikuri Baserria Guikuri where you have time to unpack and settle into this magnificent old Basque farm house before going for lunch “El menu del día” in a local restaurant.

After lunch we return to Guikuri for a look at the week ahead and a photo workshop.

The day ends at 19.00. We can recommend several local restaurants but self catering is also an option. Just give us a list of your needs and we’ll see that you get what you want as part of our concierge service.

Day 2 - Short walk to the caves of Mairuelegorreta “Light Approach Photography workshop”

After breakfast we set off around 09.30 for the caves. This short walk of 2.6km takes us through some spectacular beach forest and there is ample inspiration and opportunity to take photos. After ambling through the forest we arrive at the mouth of the cave in time for a picnic lunch.

Once in the cave we can explore the limits of our cameras with a spectacular photo shoot “painting with light”.

Returning to Guikuri there is time to review the day’s shots and prepare a little for the dawn photo shoot on day 3.

Day 3 - Dawn Photo shoot

A short drive takes us to the nearby village or Aramaio to photograph the sunrise over the spectacular limestone mountain of Amboto. Later there is time to explore this curious little town, a strong hold of all things Basque.

For lunch we call into The Sea food restaurant of Urunaga where you can try all sorts of extraordinary delicacies from Txiperones en su tinta to Tuna steaks, all prepared before you eyes by a team of expert chefs.

After such an early start the afternoon is free. We can drop you off and pick you up where ever you like but many people opt to return to Guikuri and take advantage of the Hot tub, Sauna, and Turkish Bath.

Day 4 - Bilbao

Bilbao is situated at the mouth of the Nervion river. It is a city of enormous contrasts and the Bilbainos are famously and justifiably proud. This is a city whose fortunes were made in the ship building and steel industries. Economic changes in the 90’s forced the Bilbainos to reinvent themselves and with the arrival of the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao has become one of the most important cultural and artistic centres in Europe. Relics of the industrial age still remain and contrast starkly with elegant modern architecture. It is undoubtedly a feast for photographers!.

Along with the more obvious attractions we will introduce you to some of the less well known corners of Bilbao. Aside from the city this is a place where you can take a spectacular coastal walk and visit secluded beaches where the surf crashes in off the Bay of Biscay.

Day 5 - Photo Workshop

Your last day is spent in and around Guikuri where Basharat leads a photo workshop and you can prepare your best shots for the presentation in the evening. We celebrate a traditional Basque evening with renowned Bertsolaris to entertain you. Bertsoak is a curious Basque tradition of spontaneous poetry. We finish the event off with a presentation and a celebration of the images taken over the tour.
